About

The Cure was the dissertation project for my master's in Game Design. This was the most ambitious project I had worked on was a great but welcome challenge. The Cure is an Action-Platformer with a good amount of focus given to Puzzles. The game also had interesting Level Design that worked along with the story in a more deep sense that usual.

I was the sole developer on this project, so, everything from initial concept to the final version was done by me. This was the first time I was doing in depth and meaningful Level Design for a platformer and it was one of the most difficult things I faced. The game also featured a choice based branching narrative which was had to design and implement.

The game features two playable characters the player keeps switching between and these two characters are polar opposites in every sense, including their combat abilities. While one prefers range and Guns, the other prefers a more up close and personal approach with a Katana. Both characters travel towards each other throughout the game (One character keeps moving to the left while the other to the right) until they meet at the end, where the player has to make the hard choice of playing as one of the characters and fighting the other. Since the game develops these characters throughout the game and makes the player connect with both of them, the final  choice is a very hard one to make.

The Cure was a passion project and has taught me a lot about Level Design, Narrative Design, Puzzle Design, Optimising Development Cycles, Pixel Art and more.
