About
At the beginning of October 2018 I was hired as a Game Design Intern at NammaLore Entertainment Pvt Ltd. to work on an Educational Visual Novel named Mission: Happiness. This project was being developed for children under the age of 10 and was intended to be used as a companion piece to go along with their moral science lessons at school. The game featured a branching narrative that talked about gender sensitivity and stereotypes in a practical and approachable manner.
While the subject matter was of great importance, the game's content had to be made fun to play/engage with as well. This is where my responsibilities as a game designer came in. I was tasked with making the experience user friendly and fun for the target audience. I approached this task by designing mini-games that would compliment the setting of the story. These included, Hidden Object Games, Puzzle games etc.
I worked with the lead designer in developing these mini games while tweaking the main game to make it more engaging and fun. A meta game was also designed to give the players a sense of progress and achievement.
On a daily basis I discussed my designs and their feasibility with the team and made sure that they were taking the game in a positive directions. The designs were finalised after multiple iterations and these were documented meticulously.
I believe my work at NammaLore Entertainment Pvt Ltd. has developed my skills both in game mechanics and narrative design along with a better understanding of the Unity engine. This experience also helped me understand the game development pipeline in a team of this size. I was lucky enough to have worked with Industry veterans and brilliant game developers and artists who have given me a better understanding of Game Development and have helped me become a better Game Designer as a whole.
